10 steps to healthy hair!!

Updated: Jul 14

How can I get healthy hair? Is a question I receive constantly, and it's actually pretty simple!

If you want to achieve your best hair yet, get ready the secret is below!

I've been noticing more and more of my clients interested in healthy hair -- or maybe they just know how to make me happy lol but seriously, no matter how beautiful a cut, color or style is, without healthy hair, it's impossible for it to look its absolute best! It's truly the best feeling as a Hairstylist to hear clients say, how much their hair has transformed by following my prescription to healthy hair. So, I decided to share it with you all! This is no overnight miracle but what it is, is a recipe to a proper home care routine that works for you & YOUR hair.... and prepare yourself, it will transform your hair completely!

Before giving you the steps to start transforming your hair, you need these tools to help guide you through this process. Believe it or not, the products you use on your hair daily impact the hair tremendously! Being aware of what's in your products is key. No name dropping, but most over the counter shampoo's/conditioner's/styling products contain silicone, sulfates, parabens etc. which make the hair extremely dry, frizzy and unhealthy to say the least. I know what you're thinking, silicone, really???!! Yes, really! & that's just one of the ingredients. These companies thrive off of consumers who are not informed when making product purchases. You get what you pay for, is a huge understatement!

Step 1: Shampoo/ Conditioner

Find a combo that works for your hair specifically! If your hair is dry, frizzy and unmanageable you need a nourishing cleanser that will give your hair everything its lacking. If you have oily hair, you need a shampoo that will regulate your oil production while giving a deep clean. Your current Shampoo and conditioner could be working against you! If your hair needs moisture and you're giving it protein it will become brittle and dry!

PRO TIP: If you've been using over the counter shampoo/conditioners/styling products for years, you may need a professional clarifying treatment from your stylists to remove the buildup of products!

Step 2: In-salon Treatments

Making sure your receiving professional grade treatments every 4-6 weeks and with every haircut is KEY to your healthy hair journey. Each treatment is customized for your exact needs at each visit. Our treatments vary from reconstruction to moisturizing to frizz control. These highly concentrated treatments penetrate deeply into the hair shaft to deliver powerful results. This step is very important and will make or break your healthy hair journey in combination with the other steps.

Step 3: Hair Cuts or Trims

Regular trims or cuts every few weeks make a huge impact on the health of your hair. If you take big breaks between a trim or cut, you can actually be doing more damage to your hair! How is that possible? Well, it's simple, whenever you have split ends and they are not cut off, it will continue to split up until it gets cut. So even if you do a small trim after many months to your last trim, split ends can still be present and continue to split up.

Step 4: Heat Protectant

Before using any heat tools such as a blow-dryer, straightener, curling iron etc. ALWAYS use an oil &/or other heat protectant before use! NEVER use heat tools without properly saturating your hair in a heat protectant! This puts your hair in an extremely vulnerable position to breakage and split ends! Even when you're not using a heat tool keep in mind the temperature outside, especially living in Florida. Using a heat protectant daily is key in your healthy hair journey. You should be using a heat protectant ALWAYS, exactly like sunscreen. The outside heat itself, UVA/UVB rays can damage your hair significantly, if not properly protected.

PRO TIP: Use Dressed Up with a few drops Hair Oil. Apply a small amount of both products to your hands then rub together and apply starting from the bottom, up!

Step 5: Styling Product

If your using styling products, don't assume they are all the same... They totally aren't! Most have so much alcohol no matter how much magic you're sprinkling on your hair, it will never get better! Look for styling products that have ingredients that will help you reach your goal and aid in your journey, not work against you! Is your hair frizzy? dry? or oily? This step would involve asking your hairstylist (if you don't already know) all about your hair! Knowing your hair is very important, in order to pick out the best products!

Your hairstylist knows your hair the absolute best and will be able to guide you in the right direction.
